I’m stating the obvious when I say the Central Coasts produces some of the best grapes. And since this multi billion dollar industry seems to constantly be increasing we’ve found ourselves painting at both botique wineries and million ton per year operations. Regardless of the size there are numerous challenges paint coatings face in the wine industry. Weather the coatings must withstand full submersion, tanic acid, repetitive washing and or scrubbing or the constant pounding of the sun’s UV rays, we have found that different coatings hold up better in different n.
One of the biggest problems we’ve found with corrosion is due to the tanic acid from the grapes. when you call a commercial painting contractor to paint your steel structures and or machinery here are a couple of things you should consider:
- If you want them to paint metal that is exposed to grapes and or grape pulp make sure they are using coatings that are designed to withstand tanic acid otherwise you might be painting the same after every crush season.
- Also make sure they are using power tools (needle guns, grinders, sanders) and or know how to prepare the rust properly before they start painting your equipment. If you’ve left your metal to sit for too long you may need sand blasting to ensure your new coats of paint will last
- Have them always test the new coating to make sure that it adheres to your existing coating
- If they pressure wash make sure you tell them not to use bleach
