Lead paint on your building? Doesn’t necessarily mean you need to hire an abatement contractor…

There is a line between removing lead based paint for containment purposes versus abatement purposes. If you wish to “contain” the lead (by scraping and sanding peeling paint then repainting) then you just need an EPA lead certified contractor. If you’re looking for someone to remove the lead paint on your building then that is when you need an abatement contractor.

Primarily EPA is requiring Lead Saftey Practices at facilities where there are children present and or where children could be present. Its seems that most of our customers who call us for a lead containment job are schools, property managers and or government agencies.

If your building is pre-1978 and you do not get your building tested for lead then  contractors working on your building should assume there is lead paint and take proper precautions if  disturbing previous undercoats of paint.

If you are a home owner and or have an investment residential property there are other guidelines and or things to consider and I would suggest you visit the EPA website http://www.epa.gov/lead/  .
